Next summer, "Man of Steel" is Download  Man of Steel Movie  coming to the big screen. The film is from director Zack Snyder and producers Charles Roven, Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer & Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics. Ever since Batman ditched Robin for the Dark Knight trilogy, sidekicks have gone out of style, both for heroes and the villains they fight. Loki relied on a bunch of anonymous Ch'tauri (and a few hypnotized victims) to accomplish destruction in TheAvengers. Captain America only fought alongside his buddy Bucky Barnes for one battle before--spoiler!-- Bucky bit the dust (though he's poisedfor a return). Both Bane and The Joker took over Gotham on their own, aided by a bunch of henchmen, and though Thor had his Warriors Three on hand, they only really came into play near the very end.

Which iswhy Man of Steel, for all its hyper-modern style and darkness, makes for a fantastic throwback. While we were all focused on Michael Shannon's performance as the terrifying General Zod, little-known Germanactress Antje Traue stepped into the role of his sidekick Faora and lifted the entire movie by the scruff of its neck. To call Faora a sidekick is to diminish her a little-- she's terrifying, relentless presence all her own-- but it's the sidekick-ness of the part that makesher so great. While Zod is stuck shouting commands like "Prepare the world engine!" and "Prepare the genesis chamber!" Faora is brooding in the background, ready to strike. While Zod is driven by a powerful urge to rebuild Krypton, Faora is just in it for the vengeance-- or at least,we assume so. In classic sidekick fashion, she doesn't do much of the talking.

Watch Man of Steel Online Faoraisn't the only villainous female assistant of recent superhero vintage, but she's by far the most effective. Remember January Jones as Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class? Yeah, it took me a minute too. Emma Frost'spurpose is essentially identical to Faora's, a right-hand-woman to the bad guy who can be sent out to do his bidding, provide a sounding board for big chunks of plot exposition, and handle attacking one foe while the main guy focuses on another. But Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw were amatched set, dolled up in mod 60s outfits and talking about their plansfor takeover; Frost may have been more of a sex object for the male viewers, sure, but the tone of the film remained effectively the same whether we were with her or Shaw.

In Man of Steel, on the other hand, Faora makes for a crucial contrast to General Zod, whose passions and ambition drive the entire plot. She's no soulless Terminator-- her emotional reaction to seeing Krypton destroyed is a remarkable moment early in the film-- but she's a ruthlessly effective warrior, more so even than Zod, who's so single-mindedly focused on getting Kal-El that he stumbles into a few mistakes. When Zod fights or threatens, it has toMean Something-- he is, after all, one of the most iconic villains in Superman's history, and Shannon's performance helps guarantee that Zod sucks up all the air in any room. But when Faora takes over, shooting menacing glances at Lois Lane or moving like a ninja against hapless armed humans, she just gets to be plain evil. The closest this movie comes to having quips is in a pair of moments involving Faora, a villainwhose badness is so simple that the film can afford some levity at her expense.

I'm grateful for the spate of complicated superhero villains we have these days, from the wonderfully broken Loki to the overwhelmed The Lizard of The Amazing Spider-Man to even good old muffled Bane, whose motivations made no sense at all until you saw that tear slip out from behind his mask. But Faora reminds us that a complicated villain sometimes needs a no-holds-barred nasty sidekick, someone who can glower and get the upper hand and earn hisses from the audience without saying anything at all. Sidekicks may still be out of style when it comes to the heroes… but maybe it's time for the bad guys to have some company.

When it comes to modern superhero movies, it’s not enough to focus solely on the movie that’s being shown to us inthe moment. We need to project ahead to possible sequels. And so, when MTV spoke with Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer at the film’s New York premiere, they asked – and he answered – about connections between Zack Snyder’s film and the evolving D.C. cinematic universe.

Onwhether or not Goyer would be willing to follow the natural progressionof this storyline and write a potential Justice League movie, the writer said, “If I were offered, I wouldn’t say no.” The problem, as clarified by Goyer, is that just because he helped write Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movies, there’s no way that those films can be merged into Snyder’s current vision.

"The Dark Knight films do not exist in the same universe. Zack [Snyder] has gone on record. The fact that we have Wayne Industries on the satellite, Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. Lex Luthor exists in this universe. Othermetahumans do exist in this universe, so the hope is, depending on how the film does, that we'll be able to roll into some other films."

SoMan of Steel helps lay out a map that can lead to future D.C. movies. But they would have to reinvent a new Batman, as Goyer says the rumors of a possible Joseph Gordon-Levitt cameo in Snyder’s film is one of several unfounded notions. Obviously, Warner wants Man of Steel to be the start of something big. And Goyer has plans. He just hasn’t been asked, officially, to turn them into a JLA movie … yet.

Man of Steel: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack doesn't officially release until tomorrow (June 11), but those who want to hear what Hans Zimmer has done with the score for the film can listen to the album streaming over at Spotify. The streaming music site has the soundtrack available for listening now, and includes 18 tracks, which should give us plenty to listen to between now and Friday when the film finally arrives in theaters.

You can listen to the soundtrack over or open the app and search for Man of Steel. It should be the first listing under albums. All of the music featured on the soundtrack was composed by HansZimmer, whose past credits include The Lion King, The Dark Knight and Inception.

June has arrived, and with it, comes a new 13-minute featurette for Man of Steel, courtesy of Warner Bros. In addition to showing off some of the more exciting glimpses of the film, the featurette also includes comments from screenwriter David S. Goyer, director Zack Synder and some of the cast and producers, who speak about the film, the story, the characters and the tone, scope and scale of the movie.

Man of Steel arrives in theaters in less than two weeks reintroducing us to the beloved DC Comics caped character Superman. One of the things I find particularly interesting about the featurette is all of the talk about grounding the story in a reality that's familiar to viewers. "Our approach was not a comic book Superman," Goyer says. "It was just to do a more realistic Superman. A Superman that exists in a real world." They seem intent on bringing familiar settings into the story. Between Krypton, Smallville and Metropolis, fans of the character should be used to seeing fictionalsettings in this story, but the sight of a 7-11 in a scene may make themovie feel a bit more grounded in reality. And it sounds like they're aiming to make Superman, himself, relatable to people, which seems to tap into the heart of the character. Beyond his powers, Superman's an icon of hope. As Russell Crowe says, "It's about the potential for everyperson to be a force of good."

There's also some interesting talk about the costume. They kept the cape, but lost the underwear. And they made sure to work the iconic "S" onto some of the other Kryptonian characters.

Between all of the trailers and TV spots, not to mention this jumbo-sized featurette, fans eager to see the film arrive in theaters have certainly gotten a lot to look at. Man of Steel arrivesin theaters June 14.

When you think about it, Man of Steel has three very key elements to it that make editing trailers seem easy. First there’s the visual spectacle, as it appears that Zack Snyder went all out for his Superman movie, filling it with brilliant color and lighting as well as impressively detailed CGI.

And yet the trailers are still cut in a way so that they include new footage each time out while also never revealing too much about the plot. Based on a story developed by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, the film revisits the origin story of Superman and how he traveled from Krypton to Earth and grew up to learn his true identity. But where does the tale go beyond that? What is General Zod’s plan?

The way things are goingthe mystery should hold until Man of Steel arrives in theaters on June 14th, but it’s understandably a little hard to wait. To get you ready for the long-awaited release of the new Superman movie, we’ve collected all 10 of the film’s unique TV spots above, below, and beyond for your entertainment.
